We are a boutique safari outfitter, taking on only a select number of hunters each year to ensure a personalised and intense pursuit where every trophy is earned. Our focus is on the thrill of the hunt—where you’ll put in the effort, strategize, and outsmart your quarry. Fly Camping Safaris

Getting back to nature experience

Our fly camping safari takes you beyond the traditional lodge experience, offering a raw

and authentic adventure in the heart of Africa's wilderness. Far from the usual, this

journey strips away distractions, allowing you to rediscover the wild in its purest form. Each

day brings the thrill of tracking game through untamed terrain, and each night offers the

simple joy of sharing stories around a crackling fire under the vast African sky. This is not just another hunting trip—it's an unforgettable connection to nature, unlike anything you've experienced before.

Hunting: Walk-and-stalk from camp. Minimal use made of the hunting vehicle except if necessary and to retrieve hunted animals for transportation to the skinning facility.

Camping Facilities: Two-man bell tents, with stretchers, flushing toilets and hot and cold water showers.

Enjoy hearty camp-cooked meals. This is roughing it in style.

Duration: 7 days & 6 nights.

Observers: $150 per night

FAQs

To clarify some common queries

  • Wounding

    Trophy fees are payable on all animals killed, or wounded and lost. 15% VAT (Value Added Tax) will be charged for animals wounded and lost.

  • Firearms and Ammunition

    We recommend that import permits for firearms and ammunition are arranged before you arrive in South Africa. 

    Firearm import permits can be prearranged through an accredited clearing company. 

    A temporary import permit will be issued at the port of entry when clearing Customs. 

    The hunting laws require that anyone hunting the “Big Five” will require a minimum .375 calibre rifle. Any calibre from a .270 upwards is suitable for plains game hunting. 

    Should you be interested in doing some bird shooting, a 12 gauge shotgun is recommended. 

    Firearms are available for hire and ammunition will be charged as per the price list.

  • Trophy Preparation

    Our fully trained staff and skinners will personally ensure that each of your trophies is prepared, salted and treated with care. Every effort will be made to ensure that the skins are in good condition when delivered to the taxidermist. 

    As part of our service, we will deliver the trophies to the export agent or taxidermist as soon as possible after your hunt. You will be able to meet our recommended South African taxidermist and choose whether to have your taxidermy done in South Africa or the raw prep skins and skulls shipped back to your country of residence.

  • Safari Duration

    We generally recommend a minimum hunting period of 3 - 10 days for a tailor-made hunt. The recommended duration of a safari will vary according to your trophy requirements and as a general rule of thumb; we expect to hunt a trophy a day. 

    Some animals are more difficult than others to hunt and therefore require more time to be hunted successfully. 

    A minimum of 14 days is required for a Leopard hunt. The duration of the other “Big Five” safaris will vary according to the area and species to be hunted. All safaris and packages are tailor-made and will be planned on your behalf to fulfil your needs.

  • Cancellation

    • All cancellations will attract a 15% administration fee regardless of the cancellation conditions.
    • 50% of the deposit will be forfeited if the hunt is cancelled 90 days before the arrival date.
    • The deposit will be forfeited if the hunt is cancelled less than 90 days before the arrival date.
    • We highly recommend that you purchase cancellation insurance.

  • Liability

    Whilst all reasonable precautions are taken to ensure the safety and good health of clients, Rust De Winter Safaris will accept no liability for injury or illness during or after the safari.
